Zay Flowers, Baltimore Ravens rookie wide receiver, is poised to be a big-time contributor this season. He’s returned to form following the knee injury that caused him to miss all of the 2023 playoffs. Flowers broke some history last season becoming the first Ravens player to advance in the Pro Bowl as a wide receiver. Off the field, he looks forward to building on this success and doing more. He sounded optimistic about his recovery as well, saying, “My knee is awesome,” and proclaiming that he is preparing for the first game of next season.
The Baltimore Ravens are preparing to take on the Buffalo Bills this Sunday in their 2019 season opener. Flowers can hardly contain her excitement over this EPIC matchup! “At least we get to play [the Bills] in our first game this year,” he remarked, highlighting his enthusiasm for the challenge ahead. Last year, he was the team’s leader in receptions (74) and receiving yards (1,059). Now, he’s looking to be the first Ravens player since Derrick Mason to record back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons, something Mason did during the stretch from 2007 through 2009.
Flowers’ journey has not been without obstacles. He suffered a right knee injury during Baltimore’s regular-season finale against the Cleveland Browns on January 4, which prevented him from participating in the team’s postseason. Looking back on the experience, he recently described it as “super tough.” Standing idly by during the Ravens’ agonizingly close 27-25 divisional-round loss to the Bills hurt him deeply.
To get ready for the future Flowers has been putting in the work. He’s training alongside quarterback Lamar Jackson in private workouts down in Florida, and then participating in offseason practices up in Baltimore. His commitment to making their improved relationship off the field manifest itself on the field is clear. Flowers credited this collaboration with hitting that timing, adding, “It’s just great to have our timing down.”
Looking to the future, Flowers has always expressed that his intent is to play the game of football. He dismissed any interest in representing the United States in the Olympics for flag football, asserting, “I ain’t really worried about going to the Olympics. I’m trying to win a Super Bowl.” His commitment to achieving team success resonates with Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, who stated, “We just have to get him the ball more.”
As Flowers looks ahead to another very competitive season, he’s doing so with an optimistic perspective. He stated, “I feel 100%. I feel like I’m ready for the season. No limits.” Zay Flowers walking with a chip on his shoulder. He’s clearly looking to improve his own game and chip in big to the Ravens’ run for a championship.
