Zach Charbonnet Emerges as Key Player in Seahawks’ Backfield

Zach Charbonnet, their second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, is already making a profound impact in the Seattle Seahawks’ backfield. He’s really showing his craft, his professionalism all across the preseason. Charbonnet has an extensive impressive resume from his days in college. This fall, he’s poised to breakout in tandem with fellow RB and possible first-round pick Kenneth Walker III.

>The 22-year-old Charbonnet has shown great durability, missing a single game over the last two seasons. Over the course of his short college career, Etienne totaled 909 yards from scrimmage and nine touchdowns scored across just 17 games. He was back to generating an awesome 4.2 yards per carry! His talent to thrive in crunch time has made him a player to watch for coaches and teammates so far.

In the preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs, Charbonnet made a strong statement by scoring on a 15-yard run. He gained 30 yards on his first four carries, making his case to make the roster all but airtight. Most impressively perhaps is that Kenneth Walker did not play in this one, so Charbonnet was the undisputed star of the show.

Charbonnet’s work ethic and dedication to the game certainly made an impression. Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak praised his mental approach, stating that “the best backs that I’ve been around are super smart.” This coaching genius on the field has freed Charbonnet’s mind up to play faster and more instinctively in games and practices.

Mike Macdonald, the Seahawks’ running backs coach, reiterated what Kubiak said, calling Charbonnet a “stud” who “shows up every day.” He added, “He’s just everything you want in a person and a football player, that’s him.” Macdonald emphasized Charbonnet’s daily commitment to improving his game, stating, “There’s not a time that he’s not on his iPad … He’s in his book. He studies.”

Charbonnet’s locker is conveniently located near Walker’s, fostering camaraderie and competition between the two players. Teammate Drew Lock commented on their close proximity, saying, “His locker is like three or four down from mine.” This bridge to one another gives them the space to partner and hold each other accountable to being great.

Most impressive of all though, Charbonnet has not missed one day of practice since joining the team. His stability on and off the field has won him an abundance of respect among teammates, who value his businesslike demeanor and professionalism to the game.

As the regular season nears, sky high expectations follow Charbonnet. As such, analysts are confident that he will be key to opening up the Seahawks’ running game. But above all else, Brogdon’s ability to complement Walker’s playing style might be the most important factor to the team’s success this season.
