Young Rejoins Saints with Lucrative Three-Year Deal

The New Orleans Saints have secured a significant addition to their defensive lineup by re-signing DE Young to a three-year contract. The deal, valued at $51 million and potentially rising to $57 million with incentives, marks Young's return to the team. This strategic move comes after Young's impressive performance last season, where he played all 17 games and recorded 5.5 sacks along with 46 pressures.

Young's professional journey began when he was selected as the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. His rookie season with the Washington Commanders was nothing short of spectacular, earning him the title of NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowl selection. That year, he amassed 7.5 sacks, showcasing his defensive prowess.

However, Young's career faced a setback in 2021 due to an ACL injury that sidelined him for most of the following season. He managed to play only three games in the 2022 season. Despite these challenges, Young demonstrated resilience and returned to form in 2023. Splitting his time between the Commanders and the San Francisco 49ers, he accumulated a total of 7.5 sacks through the season.

Young's ability to exert pressure on opposing quarterbacks was evident, with his pressures ranking him tied for 11th in the NFL. His brief tenure with the 49ers saw him contribute significantly in nine games, further solidifying his reputation as a valuable defensive asset.

The Saints' decision to bring Young back into their fold reflects their commitment to strengthening their defense. His return is anticipated to bolster the team's pass rush capabilities, drawing from his track record of resilience and performance under pressure.
