Yorkshire Cricket has just shared some terrific news! For the rest of this season though, they’ve signed Pakistan international batter Imam Ul-Haq as their overseas player. The 29-year-old has been a huge asset to the Pakistan national women’s team. He replaces India’s Ruturaj Gaikwad, who will now be missing from the squad as originally expected.
Imam Ul Haq is coming off a great record. He has thus far featured in 24 Test matches, 75 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and two T20 internationals for his country. In his international career so far, he has scored overall 4,741 runs including 12 centuries and proves a lethal bowler. This extensive experience makes him a perfect fit alongside the ever-improving Yorkshire lineup.
His previous stint with Somerset in 2022 showcased his potential, where he recorded scores of 90, 52, 25, 5, and 0 in various matches. Even with hitting a few misses in his mixed performance over that time, his remarkable capabilities shined, especially given his perfect 90 score.
Yorkshire’s head coach Gavin Hamilton expressed enthusiasm about Ul-Haq’s arrival. He stated, “We’re delighted that Imam has joined us and that he will be available immediately.” Hamilton said that while it was disappointing to see Ruturaj Gaikwad have to withdraw, the talent of Ul-Haq was undeniable. “Whilst we were naturally disappointed that Ruturaj couldn’t join up with the squad, in Imam we have an exceptional player of proven international quality,” he added.
Ul-Haq’s signing, though, proves to be a game changer for Yorkshire. Like the Cubs, they’re willing to go big on the prospect cost if it helps them win their current window. His international experience and proven track record would add undeniable value that very well may have a huge impact on the team’s success.
