Xavier Worthy Released by Chiefs Following Arrest on Assault Charges

Xavier Worthy
, the promising wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, was released from the team following his arrest in Williamson County. Worthy was taken into custody on charges of assault on a family or household member, specifically involving choking or impeding breath. This development comes just a day after his arrest, as the Chiefs announced they were still gathering details about the incident.

Worthy was held in a county jail post-arrest, with the complainant, Tia Jones, at the center of the allegations. Jones reportedly caused significant damage to the residence she shared with Worthy, including destroying a room, scratching his face, and ripping out parts of his hair. Worthy's attorneys, Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett, maintain their client's innocence, highlighting photographic evidence of the damage caused by Jones.

Jones had been living in Worthy's home at the time of the alleged incident. Her legal representative, Angelica Cogliano, indicated that Jones intends to bring the facts of that night to light through the legal process.

"In doing so, she looks forward to the facts and circumstances of that night coming to light through the formal legal process and getting the justice that she deserves." – Angelica Cogliano

This arrest marks a significant disruption in Worthy's career. He was selected by the Chiefs with the 28th pick in last year's NFL draft and quickly established himself as a notable player. Worthy set a record for the fastest 40-yard dash at the NFL combine, demonstrating his remarkable athletic abilities. During the 2023 season, he recorded 59 catches for 638 yards and six touchdowns. Additionally, he ran 20 times for 104 yards and scored three more touchdowns.

In his NFL debut, Worthy made a memorable impact by scoring two touchdowns. His promising start in professional football now faces uncertainty with his recent release from the Chiefs.

The Chiefs organization has acknowledged awareness of Worthy's arrest and stated that they are actively gathering information about the situation.
