Wrexham has had an incredible summer transfer window. They’re preparing for their first season back in the EFL Championship since 1982. The Welsh club, which is co-owned by celebrities Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, has shown an intense desire to succeed on the pitch. Their fairytale ascent from non-league football has inspired this desire. They have already made six permanent signings and are now looking ahead to the potential for more squad strengthening.
The club announced earlier this week that they had signed England international defender Conor Coady on loan from Leicester City. Coady has moved to Wrexham on a two-year contract, with the option for a third year. He had only one year remaining on his contract with Leicester. This opened up a tactical window for both him and the club. Coady would add plenty of leadership and some solid skills on the back end as well. He should help solidify Wrexham’s backline as they look towards a successful season in the Championship.
Ambitious Moves in the Transfer Market
To add to Coady, Wrexham have reportedly been in for Sheffield United forward Kieffer Moore. They’ve reached agreement on a fee of somewhere in the region of £2 million for the 33-year-old striker. The 32-year-old has an excellent goalscoring record, netting on 60 occasions in his 203 appearances in the Championship. Moore is said to be keen on making the move to a top-flight club. This would make things difficult for Wrexham should they want to bring him on board.
Most of the football world’s focus has been on Wrexham’s audacious signing of Christian Eriksen. The gifted attacker is now a free agent after departing Manchester United. Eriksen had a miserable Premier League campaign for United last season, featuring 23 times and only scoring once and assisting twice. His experience and skill can be a huge asset to improve Wrexham’s midfield. This addition gives them a major boost in achieving their goal of promotion to the Premier League.
Aiming for Premier League Aspirations
Wrexham’s recently completed mercantile incursion and transfer targetous embody its joining to contribution to institute itself as a candid challenger in the Championship. Since their takeover, McElhenney and Reynolds have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into the team. Their outlandish goal is to make little old Wrexham a competitive force against the best clubs in all of English football.
With six permanent signings already in the books, Wrexham is sending a loud message that they’re serious about deepening their squad talent. This forward-looking thinking is more than just keeping their heads above water in the Championship. It further sets them up for a likely promotion to the Premier League.
