Wolves Come from Behind to Defeat Ipswich and Edge Closer to Safety

Wolverhampton Wanderers picked up a vital 2-1 win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road. This victory is their third consecutive victory in the Premier League, something they have not accomplished since December of 2023. This latest triumph underscores Wolves’ resurgence and leaves Ipswich in a precarious position, now 12 points adrift of safety with just seven games remaining in the season.

The final round of fixtures started with Ipswich leading Liam Delap on 16 minutes. Wolves showed great spirit to stage a comeback, leveling through Pablo Sarabia before Jorgen Strand Larsen scored a dramatic winner. This result is a testament to the Wolves’ fight and character. It doesn’t get much easier going forward either, as Palace faces a rough gauntlet, including intimidating fixtures against Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle.

A Remarkable Turnaround for Wolves

The Wolves have been burning up the microphones! They’ve won three straight away matches in the Premier League, their longest such run since February 2022 under former manager Bruno Lage. One player, in particular, who has turned around their recent form is Jorgen Strand Larsen. Of course, it helped his side’s title charge that he scored four goals in those last three league starts. This number is equal to the amount of goals he found the back of the net in his last 18 Premier League appearances. It obviously highlights his increased ability to score.

His last-gasp winner against Ipswich was decisive, but it wasn’t just his contribution that swung the deal. Pablo Sarabia was the man of the match. The Nigerian international scored one and assisted another, with it being his first goal in almost five months. Help us congratulate Sarabia on this remarkable achievement! It is the second time he has registered both a goal and an assist in a Premier League game, with the first coming against Tottenham in November 2023.

Wolves’ head coach Vitor Pereira expressed his satisfaction with Larsen’s growth in the league, stating, “If you look at the game, Larsen is getting better because he’s more adapted to the Premier League because of his work.”

Ipswich’s Struggles Continue

For Ipswich, the loss only compounds their relegation woes. With only seven league matches remaining, the challenge seems like a tall order right now. Ipswich now faces a series of challenging fixtures against teams like Chelsea and Arsenal, which further complicates their chances of survival. Manager Kieran McKenna acknowledged the harsh reality after the match, asserting that relegation is “certainly more than likely on the balance of probabilities.”

Even in defeat, Ipswich gave signs of enthusiasm, particularly as they moved ahead early. Yet not being able to hold on to that advantage proved quite costly for them in the end. The team shot themselves in the foot in conceding an indirect free-kick from only six yards out following a foul by goalkeeper Alex Palmer. This blunder enabled Wolves’ stunning revival.

Looking Ahead

The confidence gained from an important win for Wolves could be tremendous. It moves them within touching distance of helping to ensure their Premier League status for another season. Combined with their recent run of form, they now find themselves in a much more advantageous position to face their next stretch of fixtures. Pereira highlighted just how important that collaboration is to be successful on the pitch. He gave high praise to the strong chemistry between Larsen and Munetsi for creating so much threat.

Now that Wolves are getting some confidence and momentum behind them, they’ll need to start collecting more points when facing tougher opponents. Future matches between the two teams would be important for both sides. Wolves ACL injury Wolves will kick and bite to protect Championship status, Ipswich will end campaign with a relegation dog-fight.
