Woakes Confident of England’s Ashes Prospects This Winter

Chris Woakes, 36, is oozing with experience and confidence. He is convinced that England will win the Ashes this winter in Australia. Woakes was on two unsuccessful Ashes tours as England narrowly failed to win a Test. He is hopeful that it will be third time lucky as Ben Stokes’ side look to sparkle on the biggest stage.

The 34-year-old’s recent career has been plagued by a shoulder issue. He received this injury while playing his 62nd and last Test match vs India. Unfortunately, the injury ended his hopes of making the upcoming Ashes tour. Woakes announced his retirement from international cricket last month. He’s confident that had he been fit, he would have been selected to go on the series.

I called time on my career when it became clear I wouldn’t be fit to make the Ashes tour,” Woakes stated. At one point, his injury had him batting against India with his arm in a sling. This scene was a microcosm of his toughness and devotion to Duke.

Though he won’t be in the squad, Woakes is still optimistic about England’s chances. Having personally gone through those conditions in his time playing in Australia, he knows what test is ahead of his side. “Going to Australia is a different beast. I’m hoping the guys can go and do a good job and we’ve got a great chance this time,” he remarked, emphasizing his belief in the team’s potential.

England has spent the last few years assembling a young core. They have had difficulty closing out big series wins. Woakes noted, “We have been building nicely over the last few years but not quite got over the line in the big series, but it doesn’t get any bigger than this.” His insights reflect a deep understanding of the competitive nature of international cricket, especially in high-stakes tournaments like the Ashes.

Woakes is out of the international scene, but he’s preparing for a return to action. He’s “on course” to come back to franchise cricket by year’s end. His move from international cricket to the expanding world of franchise leagues showcases Pollard, a testament to his dedication and love for the cricket.
