William Mouw celebrated as he took home the ISCO Championship, his first PGA Tour title. The 24-year-old golfer put on a show to cap it off, shooting a closing-record 9-under 61 on Sunday. His final score of 10-under 270 was good enough to win him the title and further establish his name as one of the tour’s top young guns.
Mouw’s record setting round got off to an incredible start as he opened the tournament by birdieing the first three holes. This early momentum set the tone for a stellar front nine, where he added two more birdies on the seventh and eighth holes, finishing with a score of 30. He illustrated his meteor skills on that back nine. He made more birdies on 10, 11, 13 and 17.
After finishing his round, Mouw had to anxiously sit around for almost two hours. He was still hoping that his sum total score would stay unbroken. His patience was rewarded when his eye-catching 10-under 270 withstood the birdie barrage adjoining him. This victory secured him the championship title.
This win counts as Mouw’s 20th start on the PGA Tour, what a victory that would be! He spent his collegiate years in Pepperdine University, where he learned the ropes before taking the leap into professional football. Mouw had a reason to be proud as he took the hardware home. He won a two-year PGA Tour exemption and a place in next year’s PGA Championship. Yet, almost as remarkable, Sean Misener did not qualify for the upcoming Masters.
