Pakistan holds on for a courageous victory over the West Indies in the first of three One Day International (ODI) contests. Both teams showed some brilliant cool-headed bowling and batters played with ferocious determination. That game happened just a few days ago and had the entire cricketing world watching cricket’s second-largest match.
Perhaps none proved it more than the West Indies bowlers who found their length and exhibited diligence and determination on the pitch in a tightly contested battle. Jayden Seales led the way with the ball. He finished his 10 allotted overs, gave up 59 runs, and took one key wicket. Shamar Joseph had the biggest say in the match, taking 9.5-2-65-4. He took two wickets, including the key wicket of Muhammad Rizwan.
Jediah Blades took a wicket and bowled 7 economic overs to help seal the win. With so many talented teammates, his performance failed to pop. Motie bowled with such menacing effectiveness, he bowled his full quota of 10 overs. He did so while only conceding 42 runs and taking just one wicket himself. Roston Chase added depth to the bowling lineup by bowling 8 overs and conceding 41 runs, securing an additional wicket for the West Indies.
It was the mark of a West Indies bowler bent on ensuring that Pakistan had no easy runs to score. Their bowling was matched by an equally defiant Pakistani batting performance – one that would see Pakistan crowned champions.
