Washington Wizards Honor History with New City Edition Uniforms

The Washington Wizards went above and beyond expectations when they revealed their 2025 City Edition uniforms on September 22. This fresh get-up pays homage to the franchise’s beloved, golden alternate uniform that’s given Columbus all sorts of success. That aesthetic first emerged on screens from 2006-2009. The jerseys will officially debut on November 16th during a home game against the Brooklyn Nets.

Rebecca Winn, former senior vice president of marketing for the Washington Wizards, had excellent news on a similar topic! She pointed out that this color combination has been the most requested by fans and players since the start of the City Edition uniform series in 2017. The Wizards’ dedication to celebrating their history while connecting with their community is evident in this new release.

“When Nike directed us to ‘remix’ a former City Edition, we immediately thought of the classic Wizards uniform first worn in 2006,” – Rebecca Winn.

The design of the new uniforms is eye catching, including two black stripes that outline the uniforms’ necklines, shoulders, and numbers on the jerseys. The shorts feature laser cut black side panels and waistband to match in with the complete look. The term “Washington” really pops on the jersey’s chest. It features a colorful silhouette of the beloved Washington Monument, making a home-town addition to this eclectic musical medley.

The primarily red uniforms have a very fashionable D.C. hand logo in white, heavily outlined in gold, on the left side. Visual features On the left leg of these shorts, you will see a big, decorated “DMV” abbreviation. The “DMV” moniker serves to underscore the relationship with the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region. This moment is particularly poignant, as it’s the first time this Special Insignia has made its way onto a uniform for any D.C. area sports team since the Special Insignia’s introduction in 2021.

The color palette of these City Edition uniforms is black, white and gold. The design elements draw inspiration from Washington’s 2021 “mixtape” City Edition look, blending modern style with nostalgic elements that resonate with long-time fans of the franchise.

The Wizards took to social media to tease and promote their new City Edition uniforms. They then took it a step further by replying to fans on their official Twitter account (@WashWizards) on reveal day.
