Washington Commanders Lose Defensive End Deatrich Wise Jr. for the Season

Washington Commanders defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. has a torn left quadriceps. This serious injury will prevent him from playing again this season. The injury came in Thursday night’s contest against the Green Bay Packers, where the Commanders fell 27-18. With 7:34 left in the second quarter, Wise went down. This caused significant alarm over if he would be able to play again for the remainder of the season.

The 31-year-old lineman’s season officially came to an end after undergoing a procedure on Thursday. This is a huge blow to Wise, as well as the Commanders’ defensive front. Wise looms large at 6-foot-5 and 280 pounds. After signing a one-year deal with Washington in the offseason, he’s an immovable force on the front line and adds size to the team’s defense. Before joining the Commanders, he spent his first eight seasons with the New England Patriots.

Wise quickly took to Instagram to celebrate the day and thank his fans and teammates. He was especially grateful for their support and prayers as this challenging time unfolded.

“This was an unfortunate experience, but when you give so much to the game and do everything you can to improve for yourself and for your team’s success it can feel like there’s a lot to play for. When you stop, it can feel like everything around you stops too.” – Deatrich Wise Jr.

As the Commanders enter the stretch run of their regular season, their biggest job now is filling the void left by Wise’s absence. His contributions on the field were instrumental in bolstering their defense, and his loss may have lasting implications for the team’s performance moving forward.
