Warriors Triumph Over Patriots in CPL Opener

In a thrilling start to the 2025 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), the Guyana Amazon Warriors secured a five-wicket victory against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The mayoral election took place at Warner Park in St Kitts. After losing in their opening game, the Patriots bounced back to celebrate a six-wicket success against the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.

The Patriots shot for the moon with a goal of 154 runs. The Warriors showed off some impressive batting technique and quickly surpassed that record. Ben McDermott and Shai Hope were central to this history-making feat. They developed a destructive stand, adding 114 runs in just 59 deliveries. McDermott led the charge with a blistering 75 runs off 39 balls, while Hope contributed with an unbeaten 56 from 39 deliveries.

That chase got off to a rough start for the Warriors when they lost Kevlon Anderson on the very first ball to Fazalhaq Farooqi. McDermott and Hope soon calmed any fluttering hearts, Moeen Ali going on to make runs look easy, too. Ali, who scored 19 off 17 balls, had the biggest impact with the ball. He steadied the innings by building a crucial partnership of 32 runs with Hope.

The Patriots’ bowlers toiled valiantly to take wickets. Waqar Salamkheil was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 wickets while conceding just 22 runs. Fazalhaq Farooqi further stamped his authority, clinching two for 30 runs. As for the other big name, pace bowler Naseem Shah chipped in with two wickets for 20 runs. Unfortunately for their defensive efforts, the Warriors attackers were unstoppable as they pushed for the target set by the bowlers’ impressive work.

During pool play the Patriots had rolled over the Falcons. They went on to bowl them out for a paltry 121 runs in only 17.1 overs. Alick Athanaze was crucial to the fightback, scoring a determined, unbeaten 37 runs. He then built an unbroken partnership of 49 runs with captain Jason Holder, who made 18 not out. Shimron Hetmyer fell soon after Athanaze’s innings got going.

The Warriors’ win against the undefeated Patriots underscored their batting depth and practiced discipline to chase totals down. This matchup sets the standard for a highly competitive CPL season ahead. Look forward to more exciting experience in the coming days!
