The Golden State Warriors have found themselves in an even bigger hole as star player Stephen Curry has now been ruled out of the Warriors for personal reasons. Curry, who recently played through discomfort in a home victory against the Phoenix Suns, expressed that he felt his energy was depleted by the second half of that game. It was a difficult transportation trip to make it to Indianapolis and Milwaukee. Unfortunately, his illness has kept him out for the third straight game.
Curry was recently listed as questionable for last night’s game against the Indiana Pacers. Then just two hours before game time on Sunday night, he got officially ruled out. The Warriors’ medical staff decided to play it safe and give him plenty of time to heal. Regardless of how the Warriors respond, they’re in the deep end of a challenging situation. No wonder they’ve lost four out of their last five games, falling from a 4-1 start to 5-5 on the season.
Curry’s absence has been the team’s undoing. Golden State has lost eight consecutive games he’s missed, including playoff defeats. This growing trend is deeply worrisome about their prospects in the years to come, particularly in a dog-eat-dog league. At the time the Pacers were without their own stars, so the absence of Pascal Siakam wasn’t much of a concern. That opened the door for the Warriors to reestablish their deadly flow.
Curry will land in Denver late Sunday night and go directly to the team’s practice court for a workout. He hopes to be back with another session on Monday morning. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told ESPN that he is hopeful for Curry’s return. If all goes well with Curry’s workouts, Wojnarowski reports there remains a possibility that he could return for the Warriors’ Tuesday night game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Warriors are hell bent on returning to glory this year. They want to find new ways to bear the loss of their leader. The upcoming practices will be crucial for assessing Curry’s readiness and determining how the team can best position itself for future matchups.
