Warriors Face Injury Setback as Stephen Curry Suffers Hamstring Strain

The Golden State Warriors received essentially the worst-case scenario type news on their franchise superstar, Stephen Curry. He departed a recent game with a hamstring injury. An MRI today confirmed that Curry has a Grade 1 left hamstring strain. As a result, he will be forced to stay out for a minimum of one week. His actual return will solely depend on how well he responds to rehabilitation efforts.

Curry has avoided a muscle strain throughout the first 15 years of his career. This injury only increases the obstacles the Warriors need to overcome in their upcoming playoff run. During the first game of that series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Curry was scoreless. Even without him, the Warriors were able to come away with a full victory — their first of the season — beating the Minnesota Timberwolves 99-89.

In the same game, Buddy Hield shone for the Timberwolves, scoring 24 points, while Jimmy Butler III contributed significantly with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists. The Timberwolves struggled offensively, going 0-for-15 from beyond the arc in the first half, which ties them for the most misses without a make in a playoff half over the past 25 seasons.

In a statement indicating worry over Curry’s overall health, the Warriors’ coaching staff sounded optimistic about his recovery schedule. He is to be re-evaluated next week to determine how far he has improved.

As the playoffs roll on, the Warriors need to find a way to weather this storm without their star player. The team will rely on its depth and the performance of other key players to maintain momentum in the series against Minnesota.
