Von Miller Released by Bills, Future Uncertain

The Buffalo Bills have made the strategic decision to release veteran pass rusher Von Miller ahead of the new league year. This move, while financially impactful, offers the team $15.4 million in dead cap money for the current year. Miller, an eight-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time first-team All-Pro, holds an impressive record with 129.5 sacks spanning his 14-year NFL career.

Von Miller's professional journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Drafted second overall by the Denver Broncos in 2011, he quickly made a name for himself by winning the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year. Over ten seasons with Denver, he amassed 110 sacks and played a pivotal role in securing two Super Bowl victories—one with the Broncos and another during his single season with the Los Angeles Rams. During those championship runs, Miller recorded a total of nine sacks in the postseason.

Despite his illustrious career, Miller's tenure with the Bills has been fraught with challenges. In November 2022, he suffered a major right ACL injury that significantly impacted his performance. Reflecting on his decision to play in 2023, Miller admitted during the 2024 training camp that he "probably should not have played" that season due to lingering effects of the injury. Nevertheless, he managed to contribute six regular-season sacks in 2024 as part of the Bills' defensive line rotation.

Sources close to ESPN's Adam Schefter reveal that the Bills are open to the possibility of re-signing Miller, who will turn 36 on March 26. His current contract extension, valued at $80 million with $54 million guaranteed, illustrates the significant investment teams have made in his talent and leadership.

Brandon Beane, reflecting on Miller's commitment and impact on the team, stated, "Last year at this time, we were working on a restructure for him, and he did something unprecedented."
