Vlade Divac Hospitalized After Motorcycle Accident in Montenegro

Vlade Divac, the one time Serbian basketball player and former NBA star, is on the mend. Last Thursday he suffered a broken hip in a motorcycle accident. The episode unfolded on a small country road running alongside the beautiful, azure-colored coast of Montenegro’s Adriatic Sea. Divac, 57, had emergency surgery to repair his condition, which necessitated immediate treatment.

Divac has been a controversial, influential figure in the global basketball community. He was the first player born and trained outside the United States to play in more than 1,000 NBA games. His illustrious career spanned 16 years, during which he played primarily for the Los Angeles Lakers, both at the beginning and end of his time in the league. In 2001, Divac was named an All-Star. Four years later, in 2019, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

On the court, Divac’s success was nothing short of tremendous. He was elected to two terms as the president of Serbia’s Olympic Committee and previously was the general manager of the Sacramento Kings. His impact on the game of basketball as well as the world of sports administration has made him a respected leader in that field.

After the crash, Divac was quickly evacuated to a clinic in Risan, where doctors treated his wounds. According to hospital spokeswoman Ljubica Mitrovic, he continued to recover well after surgery.

“During the day, a surgical procedure was performed,” – Ljubica Mitrovic

Mitrovic added that at the moment Divac is in good general and physical condition. He is still closely monitored by the University of Utah medical staff as he starts his long and arduous road to recovery.

“He is in a stable general and physical condition and is under a careful supervision of the medical staff.” – Ljubica Mitrovic

The basketball community has come together in support of Divac since news of his crash emerged. His teammates, fans and former teammates have rallied around him, sending messages and support, wishing him a swift recovery. As his recovery unfolds, many look forward to seeing him return to his influential role within sports and continue sharing his passion for basketball.
