Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, the General Manager of the Minnesota Vikings, is approaching his fourth offseason with the franchise. As contract extension talks with team ownership progress, Adofo-Mensah faces the critical task of balancing the team’s solid veteran core with the infusion of young talent. Despite the Vikings’ strong performance with 13 and 14 win seasons under Adofo-Mensah and Head Coach Kevin O’Connell, there are challenges ahead. The team’s limited draft picks present a narrow opportunity to pursue youth, while the coaching staff’s increasing involvement in the draft process adds another layer of complexity.
The Vikings have shown promise under Adofo-Mensah's leadership, building a formidable team through strategic free-agent signings and trades. However, the General Manager has openly acknowledged the shortcomings of the 2022 draft class. This class saw first-round safety Lewis Cine waived and second-round cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. traded. Among the 19 players drafted since 2022, only Jordan Addison has emerged as an impact player, with Jalen Nailor being a consistent contributor.
In response to these challenges, Adofo-Mensah successfully bolstered the team's roster with a stellar free-agent class in 2024. This class included three Pro Bowlers and 12 players who made at least one start, effectively compensating for previous draft missteps. Despite these efforts, the Vikings concluded the season with the NFL's oldest team based on age-weighted snap count, highlighting the need for rejuvenation through young talent.
Adofo-Mensah's faith in acquiring linebacker Dallas Turner exemplifies his strategy of addressing team needs proactively. Turner, acquired through a trade involving six picks and drafted with a seventh, played only 315 defensive snaps but started all 17 games and earned a Pro Bowl selection. Turner's arrival underscores Adofo-Mensah's ability to identify and secure unique opportunities for the team.
"I understood the veteran locker room I was coming into," Turner remarked, acknowledging the experienced environment of the Vikings.
The Vikings' limited draft capital remains a pressing concern. With only three draft picks in 2025, they are on track to select the second-fewest players among NFL teams over four drafts from 2022 to 2025. This scarcity of picks emphasizes the importance of making each selection count and maximizing the potential of drafted players.
Adofo-Mensah's approach to building the team reflects a strategic mindset focused on long-term success. He stated:
"And that's not how the good teams are built. They address wants before they are wants. You try and find unique opportunities when you can."

"I'm really confident with how our group has grown and evolved over those years," Adofo-Mensah noted.
