In a related story, the NBA just announced the 12 referees who’ll work this year’s NBA Finals. Scott Foster will be a captain of this elite band. Foster, of course, brings tons of pedigree, as he’s refereeing his 18th Finals. With this milestone, he is even more entrenched as the league’s most senior referee.
Foster will be accompanied by experienced referees Marc Davis and Tony Brothers. The Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers have been chosen to meet in their 14th consecutive Finals. Davis has taken the floor for 21 Finals games in his career, as Brothers has reffed a total of 17. The roster features David Guthrie, an eight-time Final selection, and Josh Tiven, who is making his sixth Finals appearance.
The man in the middle for his fifth Final, James Williams. On the other hand, Sean Wright is looking for his second trip to the Finals. James Capers, with 13 previous assignments, and Zach Zarba, selected for the 12th time, reinforce the depth of experience among this year’s officiating crew. John Goble, at nine Finals games officiated, completes that list.
Newcomers Tyler Ford and Ben Taylor on making their first Finals. Their appointments together add a tremendously exciting blend of proven experience and promising new talent to the officiating ranks.
