This elite competition ends with the most exciting playoff format in sport that is made up of three major tournaments. The playoffs can still create some thrilling scenes that decide the eventual champion. Instead, they primarily reward the top performers who have at least done well throughout the whole season.
The FedEx Cup playoffs include the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the BMW Championship, and the Tour Championship. Each of these events is hugely influential in determining what the competition will be like as it moves forward. The FedEx St. Jude Championship is a new first playoff event. UPDATED: Golf’s FedEx St. Jude Championship is played at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. Afterward, the penultimate BMW Championship moves to Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland. The playoff series then ends with the highly coveted Tour Championship, which takes place at Atlanta’s East Lake Golf Club.
For the 2025 FedEx Cup playoffs, the schedule is set as follows: From August 7 to 10, golfers will compete in the FedEx St. Jude Championship, followed by the BMW Championship from August 14 to 17. The climactic battle, the Tour Championship, is set for August 21-24.
In order to make the playoffs, competitors need to be in the top 70 on the standings. After the initial playoff event, the field is cut to just 50 participants. Once the BMW Championship concludes, the field shrinks to just 30 players. These 30 top players will now compete at the Tour Championship for the overall title of FedEx Cup champion.
And the financial stakes are high as well, with the total players’ bonus pool in the FedEx Cup playoffs stretching as high as $100 million. The winner of the FedEx Cup will take home a cool $10 million. This award highlights the fierce rivalry and rich monetizing potential that accompanies this monumental tournament.
