Peter Uihlein, Sergio Garcia, and Paul Casey emerged as the frontrunners in the second round of the LIV Golf event in Hong Kong. On Saturday, Uihlein and Garcia each shot an impressive 6-under-par 64, joining Casey in a three-way tie for the lead at 11-under. The competition, held at the prestigious Hong Kong Golf Club, saw spectacular performances from these seasoned players.
Uihlein's round was particularly eventful, featuring one eagle, eight birdies, and four bogeys. Despite the uneven nature of his play, he managed to secure a tie for first place. Reflecting on his performance, Uihlein expressed his ambition to secure a victory.
"I've had four runners-up, so getting that first win would be awesome," said Uihlein, a two-time winner on The International Series.
Garcia played a flawless round with six birdies and no bogeys, showcasing his consistency on the course. Casey also maintained a bogey-free scorecard, adding four birdies to his round and finishing with a solid 66. Casey commended Uihlein's performance as he witnessed firsthand the spirited play.
"I just watched the Peter Uihlein show today," remarked Casey.
Phil Mickelson kept himself in contention by recording seven birdies against two bogeys. His determination to stay in the hunt for victory remains strong as he strategizes for the final day of play.
"(On Sunday) I've got to make seven birdies and have no bogeys, and I've got a shot at winning this tournament," Mickelson stated.
In another remarkable feat, Mito Pereira delivered a brilliant performance with a 64 that featured the 10th hole-in-one in LIV Golf history. Pereira's hole-in-one at the 149-yard second hole contributed significantly to his standing, placing him in a tie for fourth place alongside Torque GC teammate Sebastián Muñoz and Mickelson at 8-under.
Bryson DeChambeau achieved a significant milestone by hitting all 14 fairways during his round, marking the first occurrence of such precision in the five LIV Golf rounds played at Hong Kong Golf Club. He ended the day with a 67, joining Jon Rahm and five others in a tie for seventh place.
Thanks to Pereira and Muñoz's contributions, Torque GC advanced to the top of the team leaderboard at 25-under, edging out Jon Rahm's Legion XIII and Mickelson's HyFlyers GC by two strokes. As the final round approaches, the leaderboard remains fiercely contested, promising an exciting conclusion to the tournament.
