UAE Dominates Qatar to Secure Super 3 Stage in Asia Qualifier

The United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) 4-0 rout of Qatar was nothing short of monumental. They reigned supreme during the Asia qualifier for the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, hosted in Thailand. On Saturday, the UAE put on a batting masterclass in a crushing 163-run win against Nepal. This win secures their place into the Super 3 stage of the tournament, with just two spots remaining for the Global Qualifier.

On the day it was UAE batters who produced a stunning showing in the game. Captain Esha Oza was a star to lead her side, scoring 113 runs, the most in the competition. Theertha Satish was the biggest star, scoring 74 runs. Her effort helped propel UAE to a mammoth score of 192 runs in the newly adopted 16 over format. All 10 UAE batters took a great strategic decision of retiring out during their innings. This strategy worked to ensure attendance at the summit because participants were watchful of a rainy forecast hanging over Bangkok.

As the UAE began to make a play for an intimidating total, Qatar fell quickly into a hole. The team folded in a mere 11.1 overs, only managing 29 runs. Remarkably, no Qatari bowler claimed a wicket. The difference in skills and ability made for a quick end to the game. UAE’s victory was enough to see them through to the next round of the tournament.

“This extraordinary series of events should not overshadow our captain’s hundred and our opening stand of 192 and our bowlers doing the remaining job.” – Ahmed Raza

UAE’s captain, Esha Oza, was not just great with the bat on the day but showed tremendous leadership on and off the field. Head coach Ahmed Raza was full of praise for the team’s efforts and added how crucial it was to stay concentrated, especially with inclement weather affecting proceedings.

“Whilst the innings was going on we started hearing thunder and slight drizzle started,” – Ahmed Raza

Raza noted that the team was aware of the weather threats, stating, “With the thunder and drizzle we just had to make sure the whole game was played because the weather has been around.”

Going into future matches, UAE’s brilliant performance against Qatar puts them in a strong position going forward in the tournament. The Super 3 stage is crucial, as it will determine which teams will advance to the Global Qualifier, an event that will ultimately lead to four spots in the prestigious 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup in England.
