Keegan Bradley, the U.S. Ryder Cup team captain, recently hosted a team dinner in Philadelphia, bringing together top golfers as they prepare for the prestigious tournament. The tournament is scheduled to take place from September 26-28 at Bethpage Black State Park in Farmingdale, New York. It will be the basis for uniting America’s best talent against Europe’s best talent.
The U.S. Ryder Cup team, for example, has traditionally qualified its members through a points system. Following this year’s BMW Championship, which is August 17, the top six golfers in the standings will earn automatic spots on the team. Right now, Scottie Scheffler is the top dog on U.S. Ryder Cup points. He is followed almost in tandem by Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Bryson DeChambeau and Russell Henley. Bradley’s focus shifted to the lack of uniformity and media representation on both tours. He seems to have a single-minded focus on just the winner selection process.
Rory McIlroy is atop the points standings on the European side. Shane Lowry, Rasmus Højgaard, Tyrrell Hatton, Sepp Straka and Justin Rose are all right on his heels. On the qualifying side, the first six golfers in the European team standings will qualify automatically, with that number set after the British Masters on August 24. Jon Rahm has the best Ryder Cup record of anyone with at least 6 matches played, winning 6, losing 3 and halving 3. As it stands, he is 29th in the European team points rankings.
Here’s how Bradley’s dinner brought the team together. Through it all, students bonded over good eats as they plotted their pathways to victory through the thoughtful discussions and debate. Among the more notable attendees was golf superstar Bryson DeChambeau and past team member Brooks Koepka, both competing for a spot on this year’s team. We reached out to the first 20 golfers in the Ryder Cup points standings. Further, we extended invitations to players that qualified on both the 2023 Ryder Cup team and 2024 Presidents Cup team.
As the tournament date nears, excitement grows for everyone— FIFA event planners, fans, and teams. Golf’s Ryder Cup is famous for its back-biting competitiveness, but friendly golfer rivalry between American and European teams has its roots in the Cold War. Keegan Bradley will be suiting up to captain the U.S. team, while Luke Donald readies Team Europe for war. Good luck to our captains and heartfelt congratulations to all these paddlers of Bethpage Black State Park!
