Tyrod Taylor Voices Support for Justin Fields Amid Quarterback Shake-Up

In recent weeks, Tyrod Taylor has become the first player to openly advocate for Justin Fields. This follows on last week’s QB calamity for the New York Jets. This is Taylor’s first public criticism since coming over to the Jets. The organization considered him one of their top targets heading into free agency. The 35-year-old quarterback has a 28-28-1 record as a starter in his career. He is focused on channeling all of that hard-earned knowledge into making his new team a collective champion.

Taylor, who first entered the NFL in 2011, has served as a backup to Aaron Rodgers last year as a member of the Green Bay Packers. For the record, he went 17-for-22 for 119 yards and three TDs. Surprisingly, he accomplished all of this without tossing an interception over just 36 snaps played. Taylor’s new deal is for two years and $40 million, with $30 million fully guaranteed. He is very much ready to step into a leadership role.

I’m just here to do whatever I can to help the team win, in any shape, way or form,” Taylor said. I’m looking to join you on the field and help you take things to the next level. I love sharing my experiences and coaching the heck out of guys in the quarterback room and every other position.

Beyond his loyalty to the organization, Taylor has been working out with Fields in Atlanta over the course of the offseason. He added that he’s getting to know Fields “really well” and is excited about passing down his extensive experience to the younger crop of players. Taylor highlighted just how important it is to be prepared. As he said, “As a quarterback you’re always just one opportunity away, so you have to be fully prepared when that happens.”

At the annual Gridiron Gala, a dozen or more former teammates came together to lend their support to Taylor and this historic moment he’s making happen. He was awarded for outstanding community service by the United Way of New York City. This turnout, with nearly every offensive lineman in attendance, it’s easy to feel his positive influence pictured here, on-going testament to the culture he’s creating.

“I have nothing but love for Aaron Rodgers,” Taylor remarked, highlighting his respect for the veteran quarterback with whom he shared the field last season.

As Taylor integrates himself into the Jets’ structure, he remains focused on his primary goal: helping the team win. With his experience and commitment to mentorship, he aims to foster a collaborative environment that enhances performance both on and off the field.
