Tyreek Hill, the five-time All-Pro wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, underwent successful wrist surgery earlier this offseason. The surgical procedure was intended to repair a chronic ligament injury that had been plaguing him. After a year playing in considerable pain, Hill had surgery, losing his senior season. That pain eventually took a toll on his on-field performance.
Hill’s impressive production spanned 81 catches for 959 yards, as well as eight touchdowns in his 2023 campaign. These numbers represent his fewest totals since coming to Miami in 2022. He had a lot of issues and was not able to play at his normal, elite standard. He crashed in upon himself, ripping the ACL in his right knee during a joint practice with the Washington Commanders last August. Despite medical advice calling for season-ending surgery, Hill decided to continue playing.
His decision to continue to play through the injury was a controversial one. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel acknowledged Hill’s injury was severe, calling it a torn ligament. That production was severely impacted by Hill’s injuries, as he played in pain all year.
Following Miami’s season-ending defeat at the hands of the New York Jets, Hill began dropping breadcrumbs indicating he might request a trade. This led to wild speculation about his long-term prospects with the team. Dolphins general manager Chris Grier ensured Hill never went that far. In February, Hill had to walk back his comments and apologize, as he claimed at the time he was “committed” to the Dolphins.
As Hill recovers from surgery, he is expected to refrain from football activities until around summertime, just in time for training camp. As his agent Drew Rosenhaus said, medical professionals cautioned Rosenhaus and Parker to take a more aggressive treatment path earlier this season. Like what you read?
The next few months are going to be key for Hill. He wants to regain his overall strength, mobility and speed and get back on par with more youthful players. His dedication, conviction and resilience are palpable. Now, of course, the major question is if he can recover and produce the game-changing effect that their prized pass-catcher should bring to the ‘Fins.
