Tyreek Hill, the Miami Dolphins wide receiver, was recently public in denying any allegations of domestic abuse on his estranged wife. He says these allegations are part of a “shakedown” intended to manufacture bad press. Hill vehemently denied the allegations in a subsequent statement through his attorney. These allegations include allegations of eight distinct instances of domestic violence that have come out during his divorce proceedings.
Speaking on the record, Hill let the cat out of the bag about how happy he was to be curating in Miami. He stated, “I don’t really pay attention to any of that,” referring to the swirling trade rumors and allegations. In all the controversy that’s swirled around him, he was adamant that he is honing in on his individual performance and the team’s success.
Up next for the Dolphins is their worst game of the season, a 33-8 road trip to the Indianapolis Colts, where Hill only caught four passes. All of this on the backdrop of rumors about his future existence on the team. His past comments, which suggested a future trade request, had added to that speculation. Dolphins General Manager Chris Grier explained that Hill never officially asked for a trade.
Hill responded to the allegations as well as the continuing trade negotiations. He expressed regret if the intent of his comments had been misinterpreted. He too recognized the wild card NFL element of the equation as well saying, “Whatever’s going to happen is going to happen.” As of Saturday, it was still accurate that the Dolphins had not received a single serious trade inquiry on Hill.
That’s why Hill’s predicament has drawn so much attention. He’s in the second year of the three-year, $90 million deal he restructured this off-season.…to a now available player who has been the subject of nonstop trade speculation since last year. That became acute after he withdrew himself from Miami’s regular-season finale and suggested in the post-game that he was looking for a trade.
Hill is excited about how his team’s shaping up. He fully supported a players-only meeting, believing it could foster unity and improve performance moving forward.
“Noise is good — adversity is opportunity.” – Tyreek Hill
His present priority should be getting these issues addressed while making a positive impact on his team’s fortunes. The Dolphins and their fans await further developments as they navigate this complex situation surrounding one of their key players.
