Tyler Herro, the sharpshooting guard of the Miami Heat, will miss the entire 2025-26 season. He’s currently still in recovery from surgery on his left foot. The procedure is scheduled for this Friday. This follows a brutal past year where Herro dealt with an impingement in that same area. Injury and personal issues aside, he powered down the homestretch of that last season. He posted career highs across the board, making the jump to his first All-Star selection.
Throughout the 2023-24 campaign, Herro proved he could dominate, putting up 23.9 points and 5.5 assists while grabbing 5.2 boards per matchup. Not only was his performance outstanding, but it made history. Over the last four years combined, he has still averaged at least 20 points and five rebounds each of those four seasons. These achievements highlight Herro’s consistency and ability to contribute significantly to the team’s success.
The Miami Heat announced Herro’s absence at the start of the upcoming season, creating uncertainty for the team’s roster. To reinforce their depth given the unpredictable nature of Herro’s condition, the organization did questionable stuff this off-season. In trades, they added Norman Powell and Simone Fontecchio—making plans to support Herro’s defensive shortcomings with the overall culture on the roster. In the fourth round, Miami used their pick on Kasparas Jakucionis. Expect him to run with other proven commodities such as Bam Adebayo, Andrew Wiggins and Kel’el Ware on that team.
Herro’s choice of surgery seems to indicate that Miami is focused on his long-term health and, thus, performance potential. We look forward to seeing how his absence will shape the team’s culture. They’re still preparing for the next season without one of their biggest pieces.
