Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel has responded to the calls for attack made towards England attackers Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden. His comments follow similarly-matched disappointment from the England coach after their disappointing display. The coach had earlier voiced frustration at forwards’ failure to make an “impact” in England’s win against Albania on Friday. As a reply to all of this, Tuchel promised that on top of these comments Rashford and Foden already know what’s expected from them.
In response to this criticism, Tuchel went on record claiming that he believed Rashford and Foden were in the same league. He stressed how deeply they know their jobs and what is being asked of them. Tuchel was not clear about what actions players need to take to get benched. One thing he certainly did communicate is that they know what they need to do to impress him.
England Victory over Albania breeds new critics. Then, they turned towards the forwards and pounded them for their lack of production in the game. The phrase “impact,” as it was used in their statement, was never clearly defined, leaving flexibility in what the desired performance measure might look like.
Tuchel’s announcement following the critique aims to bring back confidence in Rashford and Foden. Tuchel’s comments reflect a belief in both men. They really get the outside world’s expectations, but they have the agency to go do their jobs the right way.
