The Trinbago Knight Riders won the 2025 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) final on Monday, September 22. This victory accounts for their fifth championship overall in the tournament’s history! The final played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad. The Knight Riders were matched up against the Guyana Amazon Warriors, who secured their last place by winning Qualifier 1.
The championship game’s final matchup developed following a gritty series of showdowns leading to the title showdown. The Amazon Warriors put on a show-stopping performance to outclass the Tridents in Qualifier 1. Their opponent in the last game was the same team that emerged victorious from Qualifier 2. Everybody here was excited to see England’s Joe Root in action, but Rootie couldn’t get in. He was to run into a scheduling conflict over the Ashes series with Australia.
Their opponents, the Guyana Amazon Warriors found runs hard to come by and could only muster 149-7 in their 20 overs. Each one of those players had a measurable, positive contribution. Dwaine Pretorius made a useful contribution of 17 runs, while Romario Shepherd made an impact with the bat, scoring 21 runs from just eight deliveries. Rassie van der Dussen anchored the innings with an unbeaten 37 runs, while Quinton de Kock, Brandon King, and Sherfane Rutherford all passed the 20-run mark.
Try as they might though, the Warriors had come up against a devastatingly effective bowling department from the Knight Riders. The brilliant Jason Holder was at his most effective, taking two for 32 and restricting their runs.
In reply, Trinbago Knight Riders came out with intention to chase the target down. Nicholas Pooran was the architect-in-chief, negotiating the chase with a fine hand of 45 off 44 balls. He was given great support from Kieron Pollard, who scored 36 off 25 balls. The Knight Riders took full advantage of their terrific start, sending them the rest of the way to a triumph.
Yet, despite the odds, the Amazon Warriors lost no ground on the battlefield. Imran Tahir turned in a man-of-the-match performance to take 3–34. He made important breakthroughs by removing Pollard and Andre Russell off successive balls. Even after this blow, the Knight Riders held their nerve and further consolidated their innings.
Akeal Hosein was the star with the ball for Trinbago, making an important appearance late in the game. His contributions were key in preventing the Amazon Warriors from winning their second CPL championship. The Knight Riders celebrated their fifth championship win in just their seventh season since entering the league in 2015. They captured championships in 2017, 2018, and 2020.
