Trial Date Set for Liverpool Driver Charged with Multiple Offences Following Parade Incident

On Friday afternoon, Paul Doyle, 53, was taken to Liverpool Crown Court. He was charged with seven major offences including violent conduct for an attack on a disabled man at the Premier League winners parade. Monday’s event diverted action directly started madness where Doyle burned rubber through milling crowds on Water Street in his Ford Galaxy Titanium. That dangerous and reckless driving led to more than 3,400 injuries.

The charges against Doyle include two counts of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of causing unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of attempted unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and one count of dangerous driving. The Westminster terrorist attack left 79 individuals injured, with victims of all ages from nine years old to 78 years old.

In the wake of the parade, emergency medical personnel attended to more than 50 people at more than a dozen different hospitals. As of Wednesday, seven others were still hospitalized – all in stable condition. The shocking crime has led to an outpouring of grief and anger in the community, leading local law enforcement officials to call on any witnesses to step forward.

“I fully understand how this incident has left us all shocked and saddened, and I know many will continue to have concerns and questions.”

She encouraged anyone with relevant information to contact the police: “I would encourage anyone who has not yet contacted police who may have relevant information to please come forward and contact us.”

The severity of the charges speaks to the severity of what happened that day. Doyle’s reckless driving led to the serious injury of all six victims, including two small children, further increasing the severity of charges against him.

Doyle’s provisional trial date is November 24. As the trial continues to progress, community members are left in suspense. Now they are dealing with the fallout from what should have been a festive anniversary celebration.
