Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs’ longest-tenured player and a future Hall of Famer, has emerged as one of the most dedicated athletes during this year’s training camp. As Kelce heads toward his 36th birthday this October, he certainly hasn’t looked like a player ready to antiquate himself. His commitment to preparation and improvement has become a focal point of the team’s efforts as they gear up for the upcoming NFL season.
Up until now during training camp, Kelce hasn’t missed a practice, but things have changed since the NFL Scouting Combine tested his formation. The star tight end has consistently made impressive athletic catches in the middle of the field, demonstrating both skill and agility that belies his age. He’s been getting open on deeper routes for QB Patrick Mahomes, even late in games or in moments of tiredness. In fact, even head coach Andy Reid said that Kelce “looks like he’s 20,” emphasizing just how incredible of a shape he’s in this year.
Coming into training camp, Kelce was coming from a different place than a year ago. He returned trim and energized, primarily due to his summer spent traversing Europe with his girlfriend, global pop phenomenon Taylor Swift. And throughout her Eras Tour, Kelce himself was regularly spotted cheerleading from the sidelines at different stops. His unwavering encouragement probably did wonders for her re-found energy.
Kelce, bottom right, has made the campus of Missouri Western State University his football paradise. Like last year, this year he has elected to spend it in a dorm room. This decision reflects his commitment to as fully as possible experience the magic of training camp. His project on campus is not only motivational for him to stay focused but an inspiration to his teammates and classmates as well.
As the Chiefs embark upon another quest for a Super Bowl crown, Kelce’s mind is clear. He knows how to get better every day with the process and just really focused on helping the team in a big way this year. His leadership on and off the field is invaluable as the Chiefs seek to further add to their rich history of success.
