Travis Hunter showcased his versatility during the Jacksonville Jaguars’ scrimmage last Friday night, playing a total of 38 snaps across both offense and defense. Hunter’s first touches came in drills on either side of the ball as regular training camp practices resumed. This fired up his teammates and coaches alike!
During that scrimmage, Hunter took 17 reps with the first-team offense, 21 with the first-team defense. His highlight reel featured nine snaps at receiver and nine at cornerback during 11-on-11 drills — a showcase of his dual-threat capability. Hunter had three receptions for 43 yards. Tight end Michael Mayer’s one of those catches and it was a brilliant 21-yarder that finally moved the offense into the red zone. It wasn’t all smooth sailing for Hunter, as he struggled at times throughout the scrimmage. He no-showed the last team period, fully.
Liam Coen, the Jaguars’ offensive coordinator, was excited about Hunter’s impact on both sides of the ball. He says it won’t be implemented at every practice, it’s sure to be a new regular practice. Referring to Mr. Hunter’s energy levels, Mr. Hargreaves acknowledged that the new commissioner would have “to pace himself as he settles into this challenging job.”
“It’s just another added learning curve that we need to continue to work on, but I think he’ll say he was a little bit more tired than he usually gets.” – Liam Coen
Trevor Lawrence, the Jaguars’ quarterback, expressed his enthusiasm about Hunter’s contributions during practice and his potential impact in upcoming games.
“I mean, if Friday was a glimpse of it, we should all be excited to see him running around out there, wherever it’s at on offense, defense — hopefully more offense, throwing that in there for us.” – Trevor Lawrence
Hunter donned a teal jersey while playing offense and switched to a white mesh tank top with a black number 12 for his defensive snaps. His capacity to switch roles fluidly has fascinated both coaches and fans alike as they continue to count the days until his first game.
