Travis Hunter has officially signed a four-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, solidifying his place in the NFL after being the last of the top 10 draft picks to finalize his agreement. The signing occurred on the eve of opening day, perfectly poetic and that much more meaningful for not just the player, but the franchise as well. The Jaguars’ investment in Hunter reflects their confidence in his potential impact on the team, particularly as they plan to utilize him on both offense and defense.
The Jaguars were able to get Hunter by engineering a deal with the Cleveland Browns. Their fifth, 36th, and 126th picks plus a first-rounder in 2026 just to move up three spots in the draft. This strategic move enabled them to draft Hunter with the second overall selection. His contract amounts to an eye-popping $46.65 million, all fully guaranteed. It includes a $30.57 million signing bonus, paid up front. Significantly, Hunter is the first non-quarterback as yet not drafted first overall to get his complete signing bonus paid up in full.
In addition to working on his route tree, Hunter improved at gaining separation, which showed during the offseason. His efforts ultimately proved the breadth of his incredible variety. He saw a snap in at least one full practice on defense during this stretch. On the last day of the team’s three-day minicamp, he even practiced on both sides of the ball. Jaguars head coach Liam Coen emphasized that Hunter’s dual role will continue throughout training camp, allowing him to develop his skills in both areas.
Hunter’s skill when driving home the message are truly remarkable. During his time with Colorado, he was named the prestigious Heisman Trophy winner in 2024, highlighting his skills and potential to be a franchise player in the league. As of now, only two first-round picks remain unsigned: Shemar Stewart, selected 17th overall, and Jahdae Barron, chosen 20th.
Liam Coen delved into the details that went into landing Hunter’s signing. He stressed the importance of building an ecosystem that would give Hunter the best shot at success. We look forward to great things produced by this collaboration as Hunter becomes part of the Jaguars’ offense.
That’s because Travis Hunter has some powerful agents around him. Young Money APAA Sports’ Adie von Gontard and Ray Haija were central figures in making this landmark deal a reality.
