In a shocking turn of events, Liverpool forward Diogo Jota was killed in a late-night car crash early Thursday morning. The incident took place at approximately 12:30 AM local time on the A-52 motorway in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora. Police reports have suggested that Jota was the one driving the car at the time of the crash. Sadly, the crash took the life of his brother, Andre Silva.
Spanish authorities are promptly investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. Preliminary findings indicate that a tyre burst forced the vehicle to swerve out of control during an overtaking manoeuvre alongside another car. The Civil Guard in Zamora stated, “A vehicle left the road and everything indicates a tyre burst while overtaking. As a result of the accident, the car caught fire and both people were killed.”
As that investigation goes on, officials are especially calcifying towards the tire impression on the ground made by one of the vehicle’s tires. In response to questions, the Civil Guard confirmed that “the expert report is being elaborated and finalised. These range from the economic to social aspects, but among other things, they are exploring the marks left by one of the vehicle’s wheels. Everything we know so far points to the driver of the overturned vehicle being Diogo Jota. The expert report is still a work in progress. This will soon undergo a judicial review and be sent to the Puebla de Sanabria court.
Diogo Jota’s breathtaking individual effort in Liverpool’s Premier League win over Wolves really showcased what makes him such a special player right now. This loss definitely stings for both fans and fellow teammates. After hearing the tragic news, Liverpool’s manager, Arnie Slot, traveled to Anfield to pay his respects.
