Tragedy Strikes as Former Casino Worker Launches Violent Attack in New York

In a surprising twist, police have now named 27-year-old Shane Tamura as the shooter responsible for a recent mass shooting in New York. Tamura is a former operator for Caesars Entertainment in Las Vegas. The event, unfortunately, left two people dead. Julia Hyman, an associate at Rudin Management, and security officer Aland Etienne were tragically killed. The days and weeks before the attack illustrate a scary cascade of physical illness, psychological strain, and health care discrimination.

Tamura, who moved to Las Vegas in 2019, suffered from chronic pain that led him to seek medical help. He visited every doctor imaginable, including a neurologist, and received annual MRI scans in search of a diagnosis. Although he was regularly taking OTC pain relievers like acetaminophen and ibuprofen, he needed more effective treatments as his condition continued to improve.

According to family spokespeople, Tamura’s health problems deteriorated. This caused him to understand he required help from specialists. As it deteriorated day by day, one insider recounted. In the end, Tamura had to get steroid injections to the back of his head in order to manage his pain.

Tamura was assigned to the overnight shift for security contractor Securitas, patrolling the new Lake Las Vegas community. He became widely respected for his hard work and dedication to public service. On one of those trips, he had to call local police himself to report a 75-gallon fuel theft from his equipment. He recorded the license plate number of the truck. Rick Ackley, an experienced Vegas surveillance worker, brought him on. This decision beautifully illustrates what a strong commitment to security and safety looks like.

In the days leading up to the shooting, Tamura took a trip from Las Vegas to New York City. He came on Monday, just a few days before our horrible tragedy happened. The motivations driving his actions seem multifaceted and darkly psychological. He found two notes. One was written at the site of the shooting and the other in a Las Vegas flat, disclosing his immediate necessity to articulate what was on his mind.

Tamura’s formative years told a slightly better story. There was another side to the now-academic athlete, as he’d been heavily sports-oriented from an early age. He began playing tackle football at the ripe age of six. From there, he quickly became a top running back at Golden Valley High School in Santa Clarita, California. As a junior, Sanders ran for 774 yards and 11 touchdowns while logging time on defense as well. As a senior, he rushed for 616 yards and scored five more touchdowns. This history only serves to highlight the missing contrast with his later struggles.

In the wake of the shooting, responses from all corners of the community have come flooding in. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers remain especially with our colleague.”

Elijah McCormick, a friend of Tamura’s, remarked on their relationship: “Just would have told him to tell me what’s on his mind… Hopefully, I could figure out the s
