In the last week, many teams have changed their targets to Kevin Durant. As the NBA readies itself for a massive offseason to come, trade inquiries regarding him have only increased. His unprecedented excellence on-court continues to turn heads daily. What other franchises such as the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks would give up to get him.
Durant’s eye-popping numbers make his trade value virtually unbeatable. Over the last three seasons, he has maintained an average of at least 25 points per game, shooting 50% from the field and 40% on three-pointers. More impressive yet, this streak of sheer consistency—the absence or opposite of streaking—is the longest in NBA history. Thus far this season, he has led the nation in several shooting categories. He led the league with an impressive 49.7% shooting percentage on jumpers and a remarkable 53.1% on midrange shots. Trey jumpers he made at least 45% from deep, while off-the-dribble jumpers led him to a nifty 50.9% mark!
His business partner, Rich Kleiman, is the CEO of Boardroom. Apparently, he’s not done yet, as he is currently engaged in serious trade discussions with the Phoenix Suns. Throughout the last week we’ve hosted several meetings. These conversations indicate that both Durant and the Suns are willing to entertain the possibilities.
Durant’s recent play only cements his elite status, making his 15th All-Star season this year. He was named an All-Star for the first time, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists over those 62 games. Notably, Durant’s scoring average of 26.8 points per game as a member of the Suns is the highest in the franchise’s history.
In practical terms, right now, Durant has a $54.7 million player option for the 2025-26 season. If he gets traded, he can only sign a two-year deal beyond that. This agreement, worth $112 million at most, opens on July 6. If he’s able to wait six months after being traded, that extension could go up to as much as $124 million.
Just a few months ago, Durant was the centerpiece of a possible mega trade to the Golden State Warriors during the February trade deadline. However, he opted to remain with the Suns, expressing a desire to complete the season with them after joining Phoenix in a trade during February 2023.
As Durant approaches his 37th birthday in September, that factor is weighing heavily on teams’ interest. They’re weighing his unparalleled skill set, stop-you-in-your-tracks proven track record. His elite-level contributions are sure to make him an even more valuable asset. Franchises cry for him to help fill with improving their rosters.
