In a thrilling encounter at the Amex Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur staged a remarkable comeback to secure a 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion. Spurs came from 2-0 down and drew level after a last-gasp own goal from defender Jan Paul van Hecke salvaged a point at home. This hard-earned point catapulted them above their north London rivals, Arsenal, and into second place in the Premier League table.
Brighton had a total roster overhaul, starting four new players from their 6-1 loss to Bournemouth just days earlier. Carlos Baleba, Ferdi Kadioglu, Yasin Ayari, and Brajan Gruda all received starting spots, aiming to strengthen an already talented lineup. Tottenham’s starting eleven remained unchanged, with Guglielmo Vicario once again securing the net. That defense came out as Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Destiny Udogie.
Second-half Brighton took the lead in the eighth minute. Initially, Yankuba Minteh was the one to make it happen, circling Vicario and rolling the ball into the net. The visitors continued to weather the storm for most of the opening 45 minutes, but Tottenham would equalize just before the break.

For all their bouncebackability, it didn’t look like Brighton were going to be denied this time. Yet the hosts, who had been defensively rugged and seemed ready to play for all three points, were caught on the counter. Destiny had something in store for them in the 82nd minute.
A Late Twist
In an all-too dramatic finish to the match, Jan Paul van Hecke headed a cross past his own goalkeeper. This error brought the parity score for Spurs to 2-2. This dramatic equalizer sent shivers through the Brighton crowd and changed the momentum that was clearly in Brighton’s favor to Spurs.
With the match winding down, Kudus almost won the match for Tottenham with a stoppage time goal. Brighton’s backline wouldn’t let him find a goal.
