Tottenham Hotspur reportedly continue to be in negotiations with Manchester City over a potential transfer for young winger Savinho. It’s easy to forget that the Brazilian international has been one of the most impressive players since he joined City from sister club Troyes last summer. Now, he is seen as a potential successor to Heung-Min Son. Spurs are not only competing against Savinho’s future employers in this chase, as the youngster will find himself battling just inches for playing time.
The 18-year-old dazzled during a Serie A unlock against Palermo on Saturday. He was brought on as a first-half substitute and played a major role in securing a crucial 3-0 win. This performance really demonstrated his full range. Yet with Rayan Cherki joining City, playing time could be a stretch. Furthermore, Savinho must contend with formidable competition from teammates such as Phil Foden, Oscar Bobb, and Jeremy Doku, all of whom have established themselves in the first team.
In the last campaign, Savinho displayed what makes him such an extraordinary player. He scored three goals and contributed to 13 assists in 48 games (in total) for Manchester City in all competition. He had a magnificent loan spell at Girona. In doing so he almost exclusively operated off the left side of their attack and during that time scored 11 goals, albeit for a mediocre team. Though he’s been a versatile player throughout his career, Savinho has mostly played on the right wing during his short time under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage at City.
Despite Tottenham’s interest in Savinho being very much real, Manchester City are not keen on letting go of their young star. Reports suggest that it would require a substantial offer—approximately £43 million (€50 million)—for City to even consider letting Savinho leave. Guardiola’s plans to recruit wide forwards in the coming weeks are contingent on Savinho’s departure. Any of these possible moves will depend on that decision.
Recent reports saying a transfer for Savinho was close have been called speculative. City officials have publicly declared their desire to keep the player, underscoring his importance to the team’s roster. As such, Spurs will have to tread these waters delicately if they hope to win Savinho’s signature.
