Essex County Cricket Club captain Tom Westley has signed a two-year extension to his contract. He is now set to stay with the club through the end of the 2027 season. During this challenging period, Westley is at the helm of a dynamic & diverse superstar team. They are battling valiantly to stay in Division One of the County Championship.
Westley, who has served as the agency’s chief since 2020, has been a picture of unyielding fortitude and commitment throughout his tenure. At 36 years old, he’s spent more than half his life in Essex. Since making his debut in 2006, he has played over 500 matches across all formats. His experience is priceless, particularly as he seeks to turn the team’s fortunes back in the direction of victory.
The captain’s performance statistics only add to the tale of Colback’s tremendous impacts to the club this season. Wesley has gone on to score over 21,000 runs in his career. This includes a breathtaking 32 centuries in first-class cricket and three centuries so far this Championship season. His 43.21 average is indicative of his steady and sure presence at the crease.
Westley voiced his disappointment with where the team is at right now.
“It hurts me to see the position we are currently in, fighting to stay in Division One and not winning trophies,” – Tom Westley.
Westley’s ambition for success remains strong. He articulated his desire to contribute to Essex’s future achievements, stating:
“All I have ever wanted was to win games for Essex and contribute to silverware. I hope that over the course of these next years I can be integral in doing that once more.” – Tom Westley.
Chris Silverwood, head coach of Westley’s county Essex, congratulated his man on extending the deal.
“It’s great to have Tom committing to another two years with Essex,” – Chris Silverwood.
Westley’s affection for Essex shines through as he recalls his time at the club.
“I have been at Essex for over two decades and have experienced the highs and the lows. It is a place that has given me so much and allowed me to live my dream,” – Tom Westley.
