Day two saw a dazzling performance from Lancashire seamer Tom Bailey at Emirates Old Trafford. Of their spinners he had the most recent success, taking four for 60 against Middlesex. His remarkable bowling performance saw him claim a wicket on the final ball of the innings. This moment expressed perfectly the G.O.A.T.’s skill and competitive fire on the field.
Bailey’s initial breakthrough came in the third over of the innings. He did for Sam Robson, the opener held down the order at second slip after just nine runs. That launched him into a terrific purple patch, during which he went on to run through a talented Middlesex batting order. He quickly followed that with the wicket of Luke Hollman, out for nought, caught at first slip. Bailey introduced his exceptional skills under pressure as he made Ryan Higgins save an odd bounce. This moment was a beautiful encapsulation of Bailey’s skill on the pitch.
The seamer’s success did not stop there. Continuing to take wickets, he later had Seb Morgan caught behind the stumps off an inside edge for 1. After running up 52 runs, he sacked de Caires. Bailey just tore it up today on the mic. He bowled Joe Cracknell for six with his very first ball, and as they say, taking two wickets in even quicker time, claiming Higgins and Hollman.
Bailey was electric, and he’s been terrific all summer long. Back in May, he made a case for the most improved player accolade by picking up his best-ever bowling figures against the same opposition, taking 5-79. The entire Lancashire squad stood behind Bailey, toasting his stellar successes. His high-class opening spell was the key to putting Middlesex immediately on the defensive.
T20 World Cup match at Emirates Old Trafford! Lancashire will be hoping that the fabulously gifted Bailey can give them a dynamic edge against dogged Middlesex.
