TNT has struck a significant agreement with ESPN, licensing the beloved "Inside the NBA" show in exchange for exclusive broadcasting rights to Big 12 college football and basketball games. Despite this strategic trade, the iconic cast of "Inside the NBA" remains intact, ensuring continuity for its dedicated fan base. Shaquille O’Neal, a pivotal figure on the show, has secured a lucrative new contract with TNT Sports, valued at over $15 million annually.
The recent NBA TV rights negotiations saw TNT as the odd network out, with NBC and Amazon joining forces with ESPN to secure broadcasting deals for basketball games. Notably, Charles Barkley, who received interest from both NBC and Amazon, opted to remain with TNT. His loyalty is reflected in his most recent contract extension, which compensates him with $21 million per year.
"I'm gonna cancel future meetings with Amazon… My heart is always and will be at Turner Sports."
— Charles Barkley
The decision to stay with TNT also aligns with practical changes in the network’s programming strategy, as TNT no longer requires pregame and postgame NBA shows. Kenny "The Jet" Smith continues his tenure on "Inside the NBA," while Ernie Johnson remains at the helm as the show's anchor.
Shaquille O'Neal was approached by both the NBA and Amazon regarding potential deals. However, his decision to renew his contract with TNT underscores his commitment to the network. Meanwhile, NBC is actively pursuing Carmelo Anthony for a studio analyst role, and Reggie Miller and Jamal Crawford are under consideration as color commentators.
