The Tennessee Titans remain mired in disappointment, suffering their fourth consecutive loss of the season after a disheartening 16-0 defeat against the Houston Texans. Star quarterback Cam Ward’s previous excellence is in question. In that stretch, he only finished 54.5% of his passes, throwing for 506 yards with two passing touchdowns and two interceptions. Ward’s current QBR of 23.4 ranks among the lowest in the league, underscoring the team’s struggles on offense.
On Sunday at New England, the Titans were 0-for-4 getting into the red zone. This failure marks a stunning drop-off in their offense. This performance underscores a more ominous trend for the Titans. They’ve been outscored 120-41 on the year, and they haven’t won a game since Week 13 of last year.
The defense was pretty bad. They lost the battle on fourth downs, allowing Houston to convert all three of their attempts, in addition to 353 yards of total offense. As for the Titans’ kicker, Joey Slye’s, performance in the game – woof. He shanked possible game-winners from 41 and 43 yards that would have earned the Jets some much-needed insurance points.
Ward’s frustrations bubbled to the surface in his post-game comments. While outspoken as ever, Whitmer recognized and was frustrated with an underperforming team and a disappointing campaign.
“If we keeping it a buck right now, we’re ass,” – Cam Ward
Though the outlook was certainly grim, Ward stressed the need to get a victory and come together as a unit.
“I just want to win. When is the last time Tennessee won? I don’t know. Everybody in this locker room, we have to win.” – Cam Ward
The Titans’ offensive struggles were compounded when Ward’s pass was intercepted by Derek Stingley Jr., following a deflection off one of his receivers. This catch was a perfect illustration of the Titans’ miscommunication and execution problems that has festered through the season.
