Titans Part Ways with Former First-Round Pick Treylon Burks

The Tennessee Titans have released wide receiver Treylon Burks from injured reserve. This decision signals the conclusion of his time with the team after multiple injuries shortened his career. The Titans selected Burks with the 18th overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft. To many, he was seen as the final piece to their offensive puzzle. His draft selection was the result of a trade that sent star receiver A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles. This move created very high expectations for Burks before he even stepped on a field.

Last year, in 2022, Burks had his best season, as a first year pro. Aside from running, he caught 33 passes for 444 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, his NFL tenure in Tennessee was cut short by injuries. Burks’ rookie season was the first of four that saw him only appearing in 27 games, drastically cutting his contributions on the field. This season, he took an equally large step back with a fractured collarbone just days into training camp. As a direct consequence, he was put on IR.

The Titans envisioned Burks as one of their top offensive weapons this year. He spent his entire offseason rehabbing from a torn ACL that sidelined him for the entire 2022 season. Sadly, those lingering health issues would become a curse on his life and career with the franchise. Now that Burks has an injury designation, he has graduated to special status. As a condition of the trade, he is eligible to play for any team that acquires him immediately, avoiding standard NFL injured reserve activation rules.

As the organization moves forward, the decision to waive Burks reflects the challenges the team faced in integrating a player with immense potential but persistent health concerns. Burks showed flashes of elite dynamic playmaking as a rookie. His ongoing battle to stay healthy ultimately drove him out of Tennessee.
