The Tennessee Titans couldn’t be more thrilled to witness the development of an exciting new partnership. Quarterback Cam Ward and wide receiver Elic Ayomanor are using chemistry to their advantage. During their recent games, the duo has showcased their chemistry and ability to connect under pressure, signaling a bright future for the Titans’ offense.
Even on a crucial third-and-goal, Cam Ward rolled to his right sideline. Somehow, he felt the urgency to turn down a play. When he did, he clearly pointed the wrong way, forcing Elic Ayomanor to change direction. As Davis streaked into open space, Ward scrambled, and as he did, the future Pro Bowler released a beautifully accurate ball against his body. This play led to Ayomanor’s first career touchdown, a special moment for both players as well.
This touchdown became notable as it was the Titans’ first and only touchdown scored in their first two games of the season. Even with the challenges they’ve encountered, Ward and Ayomanor’s bond continues to deepen. In their second game, Ayomanor made a contested catch against a Los Angeles Rams cornerback, demonstrating his skill in high-pressure situations.
Quarterbacks Coach Brian Callahan has confidence in Ward’s ability to get the ball to Ayomanor for big plays. The game isn’t too big for him at all,” said Callahan, putting an exclamation point on his faith in Ayomanor’s preparation to handle the big time of the NFL.
With one touch down, Ayomanor has already established dominance on the field. He ranks second on the team with 69 receiving yards, having recorded a total of 13 targets and six receptions. That’s why the Titans were smart to take him in the fourth round. They hoped to match him with Ward, a relationship that started in rookie minicamp and flourished at the NFLPA Rookie Premier event in June.
Ward undoubtedly wants to stretch the field with Ayomanor. He even took some deep shots during their embarrassing season-opening loss to the Denver Broncos. As they continue to develop their synergy, Ward remarked on Ayomanor’s abilities: “He’s always been a physical receiver who’s good at 50-50 balls and can win against off press-man with his releases.”
Additionally, Ward feels that Ayomanor has a second gear and explosiveness in his route running that shows up more on tape than people realize. “I think he doesn’t give enough credit for how fast he is and how explosive he is,” he stated, highlighting Ayomanor’s potential to further elevate their offensive strategy.
Even though they are just two games into their respective careers, Ayomanor and Ward’s deep ball chemistry is already evident. Through their deep listening, they’ve shown a surprising familiarity with one another’s playing styles that promises even more compelling performances to come. Coach Callahan talked about how they were building on their success after recovering from some early symptoms to finish important plays.
As both programs get ready for their next installments, Ward has his targets on opening up Ayomanor’s arsenal. “I feel like Elic needs a second touchdown this week,” he said, underscoring their mutual goal to enhance the Titans’ offensive output.
Ayomanor himself welcomes the task of creating big plays in high-leverage situations. That’s the scenario I hope to find myself in. I want to be the dude that can take those one-on-one matchups and win,” he claimed. The savage animals at receiver, for me, are the guys that win man coverage, or if they don’t win man coverage they’ll crush you.
