This offseason, the Tennessee Titans gave their quarterback depth chart a total makeover. Since then they’ve injected new talent and returned only Will Levis from the 2022 roster. The biggest change to the team’s quarterback room is the presence of Cam Ward, the first overall pick in the 2025 draft. Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle have been signed to strengthen the positional depth. General manager Mike Borgonzi confirmed the organization’s commitment to Levis, stating that they had no plans to trade him during the draft despite speculation.
Just like last season, this is Will Levis’s chance to prove he should be the Titans’ quarterback of the future. As a first-year starter, he posted a 2-7 record while throwing for 2,091 yards and 13 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. An injury to his right shoulder limited him down the stretch. Not wanting to ruin the kid’s confidence, the team decided to bench him in favor of veteran Mason Rudolph. After his stint with the Titans, Rudolph signed a free agent agreement to rejoin the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Borgonzi emphasized Levis’s potential value to the Titans, explaining that the organization sees significant benefits in keeping him on the roster. He noted, “As we head into the offseason it’s going to be a competition.” This statement is further demonstration of the team’s desire to create a more competitive atmosphere as they head into the 2024 season.
As far as Brandon Allen goes, that is a true game changer for the Titans. His experience with new offensive coordinator Brian Callahan at the Cincinnati Bengals from 2020 to 2022 will prove to be a great asset. Tim Boyle joining these quarterbacks in the competition for the starting job. The Titans aren’t ready to declare a starter just yet.
Beyond the quarterback gambit, the Titans have had some misfortune with rookie wide receiver Treylon Burks. Chad Brinker said on Thursday that the team doesn’t plan to exercise Burks’s fifth-year option. This choice is a result of Burks’s continued rehab from the knee injury he suffered last December. Currently, Burks won’t be ready for the start of training camp.
The Titans’ quarterback competition is fascinatingly important. It’ll allow them to complete their roster and improve upon last year’s success. With a mix of returning and new talent, the team seems focused on trying to figure out how to weather these changes in a smart way.
