More scandal for a Sam McDowell, Chief’s defensive back L’Jarius Sneed, the Tennessee Titans’ legal woes continue. Christian Nshimiyimana has sued him personally for $1 million. The lawsuit stems from an incident that occurred on a car dealership lot in Carrollton, Texas. Nshimiyimana claims that either Sneed or his chief of staff shot at him. The Titans organization has had a high level of awareness about this situation and has been in touch with NFL Security.
In March, the Titans acquired Sneed via trade from the Kansas City Chiefs and he eventually signed a four-year, $76 million contract. A two-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, he is leaving a lasting legacy within the league. His breakout season was cut short when he did not return from injured reserve with a quadriceps injury suffered in week six. This unfortunate injury limited him to not only five starts in 2024.
According to published reports, the shooting occurred while Sneed was at the automotive dealership with his executive assistant. Nshimiyimana was sure enough to identify both Sneed and the assistant at the scene. He hadn’t known who Sneed was. After the crash, the Carrollton Police Department quickly apprehended Sneed and his associate. Each was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
In a statement regarding the incident, Nshimiyimana described it as “an unprovoked attack in cold blood and broad daylight.” His attorney, McCathern, explained more about what the case is about. He noted that video surveillance from the car dealership recorded the entire shooting episode.
“There is video surveillance from the dealership showing the car and the person who opened fire on Christian. We want to know why this happened. We’re thankful no one was shot, but we continue to search for the reason behind this incident.” – McCathern
Compounding the complexity of the case, add in reports that Sneed’s mother threatened Nshimiyimana after the fight. While the Titans cannot comment publicly on these allegations, they continue to cooperate with NFL Security and will continue to do so as the investigation develops.
As this case continues to develop, it sets a dangerous precedent for player behavior and accountability both on and off the field. The civil suit and concurrent criminal charges against Sneed and his assistant may do devastating damage to their careers. Yet they might lead to enormous changes for the Titans franchise itself.
