In a thrilling start to the T20I series, all-rounder Tim Robinson stole the show even with his team on the losing end. Garden-Bachop, the New Zealand cricketer who made his T20 debut in 2022. In the opening game against Australia, he scored a blistering century. Robinson’s swashbuckling 106 runs came off just 66 balls in only his 13th T20I game. He really proved his worth on the international stage!
Robinson’s maiden T20 international innings was a demonstration of clean, powerful strokeplay, dominated by six fours and five sixes. His performance helped New Zealand post a competitive total of 181 runs for six wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Yet for all of his inspiration on the pitch, the day ended in disappointment for Robinson and his cohorts.
For the design team, it was a last-minute decision to add the cricketer to their squad. He replaced Rachin Ravindra who had been forced out of the series with a deep laceration on his face sustained in fielding practice. Robinson’s calmness under pressure was crucial but in the end it wasn’t enough to steal a win for New Zealand.
Australia showed incredible steel and class in their pursuit of 182. Ellen scored 51 and Sophie a blistering 61 and they achieved their target with 21 balls to spare. Robinson’s incredible individual performance was not enough, as his team lost the match by six wickets. Upon reaching the milestone, he celebrated by lifting his bat and helmet, producing a photo of himself celebrating the achievement – even in the loss.
The match launched an exciting three-match T20I series. Looking forward to the championship game, which is scheduled to play out at the same location this Friday! Each of the teams prepares to face off against their next adversary. It was Robinson’s century that emerged as New Zealand’s most shining moment, even amid their heartbreaking defeat.
