In a thrilling display of skill and spectacle, Tiger Woods made his much-anticipated debut in the TGL series at the SoFi Center, Palm Beach State College. The match, a 15-hole made-for-TV team event, featured Woods playing alongside Kevin Kisner and Max Homa for the Jupiter team. Their opponents, the Los Angeles team, comprised Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, and Sahith Theegala. Over the course of just two hours, the Los Angeles team secured a decisive victory, showcasing their prowess in nine holes of alternate shot triples play and six holes of singles play.
The Los Angeles team wasted no time establishing their dominance, quickly taking a commanding 5-0 lead early in the match. Despite the early setback, Tiger Woods offered glimpses of his legendary form. He sank an impressive 8-foot putt for par on the fifth hole, providing his team with a brief resurgence. However, the challenge proved too formidable as Woods encountered some tough moments, including a misdirected 101-yard wedge shot into the water on the second hole and missing a crucial 7-foot par putt on another.
The event was not just about the golf but also about the atmosphere. A high-tech videoboard added to the experience by displaying the trajectory of shots as if they were being played outdoors. The match was further elevated by a vibrant light and smoke show, accompanied by booming music during the players' walk-out introductions. Despite the lopsided score, Woods maintained a positive demeanor, smiling throughout the match.
Adding to the occasion, Serena Williams, a close friend of Woods and part of the ownership group of the Los Angeles Golf Club, was present and offered her insights on the competition. Her presence underscored the intersection of sports and entertainment that TGL aims to promote.
