In an exciting CPL encounter, the Saint Lucia Kings emerged victorious against the Guyana Amazon Warriors. They won their victory by the narrowest of margins, four wickets. The match turned completely in the middle of the 15th over. Oshane Thomas, who was bowling for the Warriors, had an awful disaster that swung momentum fully to the other side.
That game was held on [DATE] at [VENUE]. For the Warriors, it was a steep uphill battle, at one point faltering at 95 for 5. Thomas came into the match with an opportunity to take back all the momentum, but his over was a decisive moment. After starting with a dot ball and a single, the next few deliveries crumbled to pieces and the team was soon out of contention.
Thomas’ first two legal deliveries were a no-ball and a wide, a disastrous start to the over. Romario Shepherd took full advantage of Thomas’ erratic bowling, dispatching a no-ball over mid-wicket for a huge maximum. Thomas had stepped out of bounds again, and Shepherd pounced on the opportunity. He hit another six over square-leg, hitting the ball an incredible 95 meters!
As Thomas struggled to get into his groove, he could feel the pressure rising. On the fifth try, he landed a legal third ball. After a dot ball and a four, his last ball of the over went for yet another six. This expensive over amounted to 33 runs, a major contributor to the Warriors’ inability to defend their total.
Thomas had a promising match, and he did a lot of good things. He finished with figures of 1-18 off only two overs, which is disappointing. The type of challenges he dealt with in that all-important 15th over really damaged the Warriors’ game plan. They never could figure out how to handle the Kings’ vaunted hitting order.
The Kings took immediate advantage of the momentum gained by Thomas’ unfortunate give. They finished the chase win 11 balls to spare with plenty of confidence. That win guaranteed their spot in the tournament. More importantly, it reinforced their sheer batting genius with the bat as they continued to dismantle a hapless Warriors side.
