Thomas Müller to Depart Bayern Munich After 25 Years

Thomas Müller, the iconic forward of Bayern Munich, will leave the club at the end of the current season, concluding a remarkable 25-year tenure. His current contract is set to expire this summer. For the player and for the Bundesliga giants, this is the conclusion of a historic period.

Müller came up through Bayern’s youth academy system since 2000 and made his senior debut back in 2008. Throughout his career he has played 743 games for the club, scoring an incredible 247 goals. His legacy can be seen in the club winning a remarkable 33 championships on the back of his contributions. That includes having won 12 Bundesliga championships — the most successful player in the history of the German top-flight.

Aside from his domestic success, Müller has tasted European glory, capturing the UEFA Champions League on two occasions. He further proved his impact on the sport by nationalizing to the German national team. Side by side, they raised the World Cup in 2014.

Müller agreed to a one-year contract extension in December 2023. So then, when the club decided against signing him to a new deal for next year, he felt let down. He stated, “Even after all these years, regardless of the minutes I play, I still really enjoy being on the pitch with the lads and fighting for titles together for our team. And I honestly could have seen myself assuming this role a second time next year, too.”

Thomas Müller is one of the greatest player personalities this club has produced, and therefore it was important to us to find a fair and amicable agreement.”

Müller, meanwhile, looks poised to depart Bayern Munich after a glorious 17 years of senior service. He’s to be celebrated as a beloved, magical character in the minds of fans for generations. His football legacy as one of the game’s greats is well etched in stone. Even after his last game, his impact at Bayern will be felt for years to come.
